Index Market
Configure your strategy to trade stock market indices.
The Index Market block lets you choose which stock market indices your strategy trades. Indices represent baskets of stocks from specific regions or sectors, offering broad market exposure.
Why It Matters
Indices tend to have strong trends driven by economic cycles, earnings seasons, and central bank policies. They're popular for both trend-following and mean-reversion strategies. Different regions trade during different hours, which affects when your strategy will be most active.
How to Use It
- 1Drag the Index Market block onto your canvas
- 2Choose a selection mode: US Indices, European Indices, Asian Indices, All Indices, or Select Individual Indices
- 3If you chose individual selection, pick the specific indices you want
- 4Connect the block to the next step in your strategy
Settings Explained
Mode — 'US Indices' includes markets like S&P 500, Nasdaq, and Dow Jones. 'European Indices' includes markets like DAX, FTSE, and CAC 40. 'Asian Indices' includes Nikkei and Hang Seng. 'All Indices' selects everything. 'Select Individual Indices' lets you hand-pick specific ones.
Custom Indices — Only appears with individual selection. Useful when you want to focus on one specific market you understand well, like the S&P 500.
Example Use Case
You want to build a strategy that trades US indices during the New York session. You select 'US Indices' and pair it with a Restrictions block that limits trading to US market hours.
If you're combining indices from different regions, be aware that they trade during different hours. A strategy that works on US indices during New York hours may not work the same way on Asian indices.
